Connecting the unconnected - growing entrepreneurial businesses in complex situations
11:45 - 12:05, 23rd of September (Wednesday) 2020/ INSPIRE STAGE
If we are to truly connect the unconnected there are many layers and implications we have to consider. It is not as simple as merely giving individuals access to good quality, reasonably priced wifi and mobile data. What is "connected"? Does it imply empowerment or access to decent work and income? Or so much more? Before we even begin to consider solutions we have to think about the needs of the individual and reflect on our own understanding of "connected". This speech gives the audience an insight into South African township-based entrepreneurial businesses and the challenges they face, the opportunities available to them and the solutions to help them grow. The solutions are complex but by applying a different way of thinking and partnerships between different countries we can make a contribution towards solving these issues globally.
