Fionn Ferreira

Fionn is a 20-year-old student, scientist, anti-plastic pollution innovator focusing on solving the plastic pollution crisis. Growing up by the seashore in Ireland, he became passionate about solving the microplastic issue. Fionn built several inventions to test for these microplastics and he decided to invent a method to remove microplastics from water himself. 

Following many failed attempts, he made a device that uses a magnet-based method to remove the particles from water with high extraction rates as well as being environmentally safe. Fionn won the 2019 Google Science Fair for his invention and founded Fionn & Co. in 2020, where he is using his method to build a device for the efficient removal of microplastics from water on a large scale.

While Fionn is at university studying Chemistry, he is a sought-after keynote speaker. He regularly contributes to World Economic Forum, Vivatech and other events that advance the transition towards a circular economy. He was also named a Forbes 30 under 30. Fionn’s new startup Glic, due to launch in Fall 2021, aims to be an online platform hub for young inventors, scientists and innovators to communicate and obtain a toolset of resources to bring their ideas to life.
