Internet plumber, information security expert, digital human rights advocate, hacker

rys.io

Digital human rights activist, information security professional, and a sysadmin. I currently work as an Internet plumber at a major DNS recursive resolver, and write a regular column about technology for OKO.press.

Previously, I had been responsible for information security of investigative journalists working on Panama Papers, while building out the infrastructure necessary to handle the (organic and malicious) traffic, as Chief Information Security Officer and Head of Infrastructure at OCCRP. I had advised the Polish Minister of Digital Affairs as a member of the Digital Affairs Council. And I held the position of Chief Information Security Officer at ISNIC, the .is registry and Reykjavík Internet Exchange operator.

I had also managed a Free and Open Source Software focused NGO in Poland, co-founded the Warsaw Hackerspace, and helped reactivate Hakkavélin, the hackerspace in Reykjavík. I've met with various policy makers on issues ranging from copyright reform through surveillance and privacy to open education resources. And I am only getting started.
